  • avatar Battlefield 3 Preview Roundup (E3 Edition) Posted by Electronic Arts at 04:18PM on Thursday, June, 09, 2011

The preview coverage for Battlefield 3 from E3 is coming in, and the critics have some great things to say about the upcoming epic from DICE. We’ve received 31 “Best of E3” award nominations, and have already won the Best FPS award from GamePro! Here’s just a snippet of what the experts are saying.

“The game has exceeded my expectations in terms of presentation and mechanics; the battles are intense and almost scary in how much destruction can take place around you.” - Ars Technica

“In all, the multiplayer for Battlefield 3 looks like the kind of thing that will keep fans and the community of Battlefeld online gamers happy while still switching things up enough to stay fresh.” – GamePro

“It's especially noteworthy just how much DICE has nailed physicality in the game through animations, such as your legs swinging over obstacles as you vault them. But it's the prone maneuver, which has been the subject of so much forum talk already, that impresses the most: Hitting the ground and laying down fire via the machine gun's bipod just feels so right.” - GameSpot

“It is, in short, what we expect from Dice. It is very promising.” - Guardian

“Two tweaks that stood out during the time I played, and really show DICE's commitment to making the experience better and better, were the inclusion of prone and the ability to opt out of revive.” - IGN

“The recoil of guns in Battlefield 3 is deeply satisfying, especially when it's followed by an enemy staggering and then falling.” - Kotaku

“It looks great. And it plays great. And it was playing on PC. Much to the chagrin of the various retail buyers I crushed.” - PC Gamer

Even all the hardcore CoD buffs I've run into are saying good things about what was shown with BF3. This will be a huge success, I can feel it. I excitedly await it's release.

The MW3 demo I saw looked good, but BF3 looks almost too good to be real. It's almost as if it's something from the future, something that's not possible today. DICE, have you guys gotten a hold of a time machine or something?

“Two tweaks that stood out during the time I played, and really show DICE's commitment to making the experience better and better, were the inclusion of prone and the ability to opt out of revive.” This is what worries me, in an otherwise awesome presentation. At least for team modes (Conquest and Rush). Some fans wants this, but imo mostly the "bad" ones (non-team players). It will lead to even more camping, Recons in spawnbase, now prone. And refusal to be rezzed (and help the team) in any "dangerous" situation. All for the glory of the K/D ratio, even though real men only measure themselves by W/L. There has to be counters to such detrimental team behaviour, such as the "suppression" feature. Hopefully there's more as well. Perhaps the new aiming feature (holding breath) will help as well. A drastic measure would be to award NO POINTS at all to the losing team... At least not any K/D scores... And BF3 and MW3 comparisons are pointless, they're as comparable as StarCraft 2 and Total War Shogun 2. Same genre, strategy games, but the differences betweent the two are to many and/or major. Personally, I will enjoy MW3 and love BF3.

Opt outs will serve a purpose. I hate being revived just to be mowed down by the guy who killed me two seconds ago.
