I'm a fan of first person shooters, period. That being said, I'm also a fan of shooting real weapons and CQB. In all my days I can't recall any of my buddies, storming into a room, holding two shotguns, then jumping from a crane and stabbing 12 terrorists with a knife. Battlefield is fun, but they're not trying to make a realistic game, they're trying to make a fun game, and in the world we live in, those two things are not synonymous. Does this mean Battlefield is a bad game? No, it also doesn't mean COD is a bad game. Hell, even America's Army, which was touted as being realistic lacked a solid cover system. No reason to hate on any game, a shooter won't be real until it incorporate some form of REAL life fear... try shooting when you think you're going to die... ;-)

Ok, now if I had to put my money on it I'd say that you've never fired a weapon in your life. Recoil doesn't just make a gun go up but knocks you back also. No video game in the past decade or probably in this one will ever be able to replicate that due to the fact that they can't simulate being knocked back realistically. However I will say that this is way better than that of the recoil in Call of Duty.

ffs. I was only saying that guns do have recoil. I know that they can´t simulate the feeling of firing a gun but i rather play a game that feels a little bit autentic, then running around like i´m floating with no recoil at all. And for the record, you just lost your money.

Yeah, but the reload on the m4 in this here video isn't correct(or should I say the most covenient) due to the fact that he is not using the bolt release instead of the charging handle.

the reason we pull the charging handle is due to the fact that in combat we have a reduced ability to use our fine motor skills due to the adrenaline flowing and the hastines of getting things done while being shot at. its the same way we rack the m9 instead od just using the slide release.

Holy crap people. Buildings falling, cover being torn apart, fighting as a squad instead of lone wolf... this is as realistic as a video game can get. Sure, maybe not ArmA realistic in terms of technical status, but that's where it gets boring. Quite taking a statement and blowing it out of proportion. If you want real combat, join the military. If you want true feeling combat without the fear of death, play BF3.

I have handled/owned enough firearms to see that the recoil is not "realistic". I don't see why a person has to be a marine in Iraq in order to have handled a firearm, because they do sell them in stores.

I am going to go ahead and embarrass you here.... umm..... first of all. THIS GAME IS NOT REALISTIC. Just because the guns have recoil, the graphics are amazing, bullets take time to travel and they drop, there is vehicles and the battles seem much more true to life, THTA DOES NOT MEAN IT IS REALISTIC!!! If this game was realistic, no one in the world would enjoy it!!! It makes me sick how Bad Company 2 fanboys would rant and rave JUSt because bullets drop ONLY when sniping. Saying "it has the best sniping in any video game EVER!!!". LOL Get your facts straight. If you want gameplay that is even closer to "Realism", play Operation Flashpoint or join the Military. I was only refering to the term that DICE themself uses for their franchise. Get YOUR fact straight. And i also mentioned that guns do have recoil, they do, did you know that? And yes, i have been in the military, i´ve done my fair share of duty. And as a guy in these comment said, this is as real as it gets without getting boring. Ok, for all you guys saying this is a realistic shooter, think,again. This game is nowhere near realistic. sure the guns have recoil but it is not even comparable to real recoil on a M249. The only thing that could be realistic is that people die when you shoot at them, and the language. But I would prefer to play this game 110% of the time over COD. But to be honest with you people in the service do not play these games for realism, we play them for entertainment, we get enough of that S**t in our everyday lives. Why should i think again? DICE is refering to their games as realistic first person shooters. The word realism is somewhat relativ in that sense. I was only refering to the the guns, that they have recoil. Not that this is like reality. No one actually wants a totally realistic game, only bits and pieces of reality that makes it feel autentic. Entertainment is the key word in the gaming industry, and it should stay that way. enough said.

Arma is a simulation game. Just as people might prefer CoD over Battlefield in terms of fast-paced gameplay, some prefer ArmA as their type of realistic warfare game. It has nothing to do with whether a person prefers their game to be real, just how they want it differently.

It's more realistic than CoD, far less realistic than ArmA, but just enough that the majority of people can enjoy it. I never really got into ArmA at all but this... THIS is what I'm getting in the fall.

In my opinion, Arma is a bit exaggerated in realism due to the fact that the AI can see almost everything and the game is too complicated for beginners. On the other hand, I enjoy playing Arma because of it's realism and it's large open area. Battlefield 3 however... I just can't wait to play it :D

Does anyone actually know when Beta Access is given? I bought MoH (and had fun with the SP, but I loved BFBC2's MP more) and I *really* want to play this game -- as we all do. Who knows, probably sometime in May. I seem to recall them saying that the BF3 beta would be one year after the release of MoH... or something like that. Anyways, this Fault Line series was a great way to build up hype to the game. I can't wait tell Beta Day.

No. call of duty will not be affected in any way by battlefield 3. They're completely different games in terms of the overall gameplay experience. I prefer objective based modes on massive maps in an environment where teamwork is crucial. I prefer complexity. This is why I played 1942 and bf 2. For all its flaws, call of duty does what it's supposed to, provide frenetic firefights on small maps. Cod is a much simpler game and easy to pick up and play which helps it remain popular. Battlefield is far more complex and hopefully always will be. Nothing will kill cod and that's fine, there's more than enough room for both in the world. When you say things like, "OMG we will killz ze call of doody,"you make the battlefield community look like typical fanboys riding the short bus.

Agreed. I prefer the expansive map with plenty to do. I still typically lone wolf it however a larger map increases your possibilities, I may just want to take a jeep and hop the river! ;-) Is there a multiplayer video? I will likely still play call of duty... though to date I think their best in the series was World at War.... Battlefield has vehicles... this adds a much needed dynamic that call of duty is missing at least in my eyes.

The sound man THE SOUND. Can't believe no1's commenting that yet, I couldn't stand playing Blops for more than 30 mins before I got bored of all the toyguns. It reminded me of bunch of kids running around playing. :/ The sound of BF3 is freaking fantastic, the deep bass from the tremors sounds shivers down my spine on my XB500 "Extra bass" headphones and the gun fire overpowers the rest like it should. The sound is a very important factor for overall enjoyment that I feel has often been something that's forgotten about, well DICE hasn't, this is a prime example HOW an FPS game should sound like, BRAVO

There are so many freaking ways this game is going to be fantastic, but the only concern i have, is two-folded. First, i will most likely forget how to socialize, second i think that new, younger gamers, need to be reminded that real war is nothing like a game. With graphics this unbelievable, noise that makes you feel like your there, and the overall quality of this production, i do fear the mindset that it might instill on younger people. BF3 sticks to what makes it good, and that I believe will still be the cooperative gameplay, online specifically. if the graphics lacked you could still have such a great time with friends and gamers alike. At that core, i love this game and the endless amounts of fun it can make. Cheers dice, you have given me a full hard-one with this one.

1st CAV, Battlefield has always focused on Multiplayer. Like battlefied 2 didnt even have a story mode. It was all multiplayer.

You don't suppose...that the reason for that...is because the weapon itself...is shaking all over the place? It's a saw and it does that. But what's awesome...is that they didn't EXAGGERATE IT. Finally...they managed to get the recoil JUST RIGHT. They still made it sound a little heavier than the weapon actually is...but it's close enough to satisfactory. That's about as much as the M249 SAW actually jumps. It's actually a very stable weapon. Same 5.56mm bullet as an M16 or M4...but with less jump due to the weight of the weapon. It's actually a very accurate weapon. Especially when in the prone. I loved my SAW. But I was also one hell of a shot with my M4. Shot a perfect 40 on the firing ranges, I did... I can tell you that the muzzle of an M4 tends to climb a little higher because of it's shorter stature. But if you know how to hold it and brace it right, it's got better accuracy at distance than the M16. (That's what a carbine is for. It has it's advantages and disadvantages.) I can fully believe that the M4 would rattle about as shown in this video if you're not bracing the stock to the shoulder/pit area. I'm actually just impressed. Most games always get the whole recoil situation WRONG. Looks good so far.
